Not that long ago, back in December 2011, I found myself yearning for a new camera. I had had an on/off kind of relationship with my previous camera, the Sony Alpha 100, which resulted in my never leaving full auto mode and using it more like a point and shoot for the occasional snapshot, rather than a true DSLR. I can’t remember what exactly rekindled my interest in photography at that point, but there I was, staring through the thick store-glass window at the most beautiful piece of technology ever, or so I thought at the time: the Canon EOS 60D with the EF-S 17-85mm lens. After much toing and froing, I was convinced, or rather I managed to convince the dearly beloved wife, that I would never ever need another camera, or any piece of technology for that matter, if I could just get my hands on this amazing beast of a camera. NEVER !
I was wrong…
Two years and two months later, I still very much love shooting landscapes, cityscapes and all things nature, yet… Well here’s the thing: as the 60D was the gateway drug that pushed me further down the photography rabbit hole, shooting my sister-in-law’s (small) wedding left me aching for more as well.

After a colleague and friend had seen some of my wedding shots, he spoke with another recently engaged friend of his. One thing led to another and this resulted in a VERY big smile on my face on Friday, December 13th 2013…
This is the story of Anne and Tim’s wedding :-)

I met with Tim at around half past one. While I hadn't really been asked to document the "getting ready" phase, I still decided to snap a few frames.

The next stop was the town hall in Kehlen, where both were to get married at around 3 p.m.
After a short, but very touching ceremony, we went straight to the Château d'Urspelt, which has to be one of the most beautiful venues I have ever had the chance to visit.
Our happy couple bravely fought the biting cold to allow me to get a couple of shots I really wanted ;-)

Once inside, I quickly switched to the 70-200mm lens, as I wanted to snipe away at the guests, capturing them from far away without having to worry they would feel threatened by a camera shoved in their face up close and personal.

Finally, it was time for the first dance. Something unexpected and amazing happened: I shot one of my absolute favourite pictures ever!
Happiness
I was done at around 5 a.m., feeling exhausted, yet wired and above all: incredibly grateful to have been granted the privilege to experience and share a wonderfully intimate moment with strangers, whom have since become friends.
Anne and Tim, if you're reading this: THANK YOU, your wedding was just PERFECT!
Enough of the boring prose, let's see some pictures! Here's a small selection I wanted to share with you :-)
Finally, just a little bit of gear talk: I shot these with a Canon 5D Mark III and a Canon 6D, while a Fuji X-E2 was used for the macro shots. Lenses used were the Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8 L II, EF 70-200 f/2.8 L II, EF 8-15 f/4, Sigma 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM and Fuji XF-60 mm f/2.4.
Post-processing was done in Lightroom 5 with quite a bit of help from the marvellous Rebecca Lily Pro Presets (Set II mostly, but also some Set I).
